About the Department

The Ag. Botany is a vital academic and research unit within college, dedicated to the improvement of crop plants through scientific breeding techniques and genetic analysis. The department focuses on understanding the principles of heredity, genetic variation and the application of modern breeding methods to develop high-yielding, climate-resilient and pest-resistant crop varieties.

The department is actively engaged in teaching, research and extension activities. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses covering subjects such as classical genetics, molecular genetics, plant breeding methods, biotechnology, seed technology and bioinformatics. Students are trained in both theoretical concepts and practical skills, including hybridization, selection techniques, field trials and laboratory-based genetic analysis.
