NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME
The idea of student participation in national service in India was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, who encouraged students to serve society and villages. After independence, the need for social service in education was emphasized to improve both education and community development. The University Grants Commission under Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan recommended voluntary national service in educational institutions. In 1950, the Central Advisory Board of Education suggested that students should devote time to voluntary manual and social work. In 1958, Jawaharlal Nehru proposed social service as a requirement for graduation. Several committees, including those led by Dr. C. D. Deshmukh and Dr. D. S. Kothari, supported national service for students. In 1967, it was suggested that students could join either the National Cadet Corps or the new National Service Scheme. The NSS was officially launched on 24 September 1969 by Dr. V. K. R. V. Rao in 37 universities across India. NSS aims to involve students in community service, rural development, health, sanitation, literacy, blood donation, disaster relief and national integration. Today, the National Service Scheme is active across India and helps students develop social awareness, leadership and a spirit of service.
Our college has three active units of the National Service Scheme (NSS) with a total strength of 300 volunteers. These units work continuously to develop social responsibility, leadership qualities, discipline and a spirit of community service among students. Through various activities such as cleanliness drives, plantation campaigns, health awareness programmes, blood donation camps, village surveys and educational campaigns, the NSS units make an important contribution to society.
NSS Unit-I is for boys and is guided by Dr. Rohit Rana as the Programme Officer. Under his leadership, the unit actively participates in different social welfare activities and motivates students to work for the betterment of society.
NSS Unit-II is for both boys and girls and is supervised by Dr. Preetam Singh as the Programme Officer. This unit encourages students to take part in community development programmes and helps them understand the importance of service to the nation.
NSS Unit-III is exclusively for girls and is led by Km. Gayatri Tripathi as the Programme Officer. The unit organizes various awareness programmes, social campaigns, and volunteer activities to inspire female students towards social commitment, leadership, and nation building.
Together, all three NSS units play a vital role in creating responsible citizens and strengthening the bond between the college and society.
NSS SONG
